Sweet Paleo Giveaway and Celebration!!!

Buy a copy of Sweet Paleo!updated_bookart

It’s finally here! The amazing giveaway I’ve been putting together to celebrate the release of my cookbook Sweet Paleo: Gluten-Free, Grain-Free Delights is up and running. I have some amazing prizes offered, including the Grand Prize: one of Blendtec‘s top-of-the-line blenders and a Twister Jar. Wellbee’s has also graciously provided some of their products, including the same finely ground, blanched almond flour I used while developing the recipes in the book. There are 4 total prize packages – each one made up of great products with several ways to win.

But first, let’s revisit the reason behind the celebration! Sweet Paleo

In my recent post I gave an in-depth look at the book and why I think you will love it, including sample photos. Check out that post for plenty of details on why you will love this book – including how affordable it is!

Finding recipes for special occasions and treats that conform to certain dietary preferences, allergies and/or intolerances can be difficult. So I wanted to use what I have learned over the years to help others who want more healthful options but don’t want to sacrifice taste. I put my heart and soul into this book – doing all the recipe-development, writing and photography. Because I work full time, in addition to having a husband and two boys, the book work was done at night and on weekends. I even used my vacation time to work on Sweet Paleo – even missing out on a beach trip with the family. There were times when I doubted my ability to finish and whether or not I had made the right decision to even take on this huge project! There were times when I thought about throwing in the towel but something inside was driving me forward.

I remember one particularly exhausting period when I happened to check my blog email and found a message from a mom of a little one-year old boy. She had made my recipe for Chocolate Birthday Cake and wanted to let me know the results. She was raving about how good the cake was, how everyone loved it, including her little guy, and how happy she was to be able to feed him something “safe” on his big day. She even sent a picture of the precious baby with a big smile, and a lot of cake, on his face!

It was messages like hers that kept me going and motivated! And I’m very excited for you all to see the book and try the recipes for yourselves.

    • Denise,
Funny you should mention black and white cookies. I don’t have that recipe in the book. But it was one of the ones I tried to make because I love them so much! I didn’t like the results enough to put them in this book but I’m still going to work on it and share when it’s as good as can be.

  2. my favorite dessert is ben and jerry’s fudge brownie ice cream! i remember seeing a blog post a recipe once for a gf version of it….with brownies made from black beans. but my blender has never been able to handle the blending of beans smoothly enough for me to use them in dessert recipes. if i won this blendtec i’d definitely be giving that one a try 😀

  3. Living in the south, I really love bread pudding, but it’s so difficult to recreate with grain free bread!

  4. My favorite dessert is usually one that contains CHOCOLATE!!!! Brownies are a hit, but I also cook with no animal products, and I’ve yet to find THE perfect grainfree, egg free, dairy free brownie. Not much luck with black bean brownies that I’ve tried 🙁

  6. I Love a perfect Chocolate Cake, not overly sweet, just the right amount and also a dark chocolate richness all at the same time. I have tried many times and it never comes out just quite right.

  7. My favorite dessert would be just about anything chocolate. I’d love to have a recipe for paleo friendly tiramisu or chocolate croissants.

  8. I think cinnamon rolls have been the most difficult paleo dessert to duplicate. I have tried several recipes which do satisfy the flavors, but none can produce that yeasty bread texture and taste.

  9. I could definitely use a high powered blender that doesn’t die on me when I make nut butter!

I love all things cake and all things chocolate, followed by berries, cinnamon, vanilla, mint,…(the list goes on). I’ve been craving a brownie fudge sundae for about 6 months now.

I would say one of the most difficult baked good challenges when going gluten free is maintaining a fluffy, light cake texture.

  10. My favorite desert is rich, lemony pound cake. My original recipe uses white flour, crisco, and lots of sugar…none of which I want to use anymore, but its the family’s favorite cake (its been handed down since great-grandma). I would love to have a paleo version with the same taste and fine texture.

  12. My absolute FAVORITE dessert is cheesecake. I have a dairy issue though. So I don’t really know where/how to fix that one. I would TOTALLY go without crust. 🙂

    • Amy, I have a dairy-free cheesecake recipe in the cookbook. It uses cashew cream in the base. So maybe that’s an option if you can eat nuts. But I know what you mean about cheesecake. It’s hard to resist!

  14. My favorite dessert is Tiramisu, I don’t even know where you would start with making that one Paleo but it would be amazing.

    • It’s in the book! There’s a grain-free Lady Fingers recipe (nut-free) and a dairy version of the rest of the recipe as well as dairy-free option that uses a Sabayon sauce with whipped coconut cream for the filling. It will never be exactly the same but our family loves this version.

  15. My favorite dessert is key lime pie. It’s hard to transform because removing the gluten ingredients would probably ruin the pie crust.

  21. My favorite is anything chocolate. The hardest thing to convert to paleo/gluten/grain-free is anything in the pastry family, especially puff pastry, laminated doughs. The holy grail would being able to make croissants again. Oh, how I miss them!!

  22. My mom’s brown sugar cinnamon kringle fits both questions — favorite dessert (looked forward to 364 days a year) + might be difficult to deviate away from traditional ingredients. Congrats!
